Airbus’s re-engined A330neo has achieved the concept freeze point of its development, enabling detailed design work to start.
The A330neo is evolving from the baseline A330 programme, with the aircraft receiving an aerodynamic clean-up and new Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines.
Airbus states that, having passed the concept freeze review, detailed component deisgn work on the A330neo can proceed.
“Industrial feasibility has been demonstrated and the target for entry-into-service by end 2017 has been confirmed,” says the airframer.
Airbus unveiled the A330neo nearly a year ago, in July 2014, and has set a 42-month timeline for the type’s development.
It had secured order for 135 of the larger A330-900neo and another 10 for the A330-800neo by the end of May 2015.
