Air India has put five of its Boeing 777-200LR aircraft for sale after failing in three earlier tenders to find a bidder that would take them on a dry lease.
The airline says that the bid price should be made for each aircraft separately and that it will not participate in or make any financing agreement for any prospective buyers. Bids are due on 16 November, it adds.
India's flag carrier first approached operators with a dry lease tender in January, but subsequently postponed it to a later date. It issued the tender again last month and earlier this month, and both were unsuccessful.
The aircraft were acquired under US Export-Import Bank financings. Four of the aircraft, with the manufacturer serial numbers 36300, 36301, 36302 and 36303 were manufactured in 2007. The fifth aircraft, MSN 36304, was manufactured in February 2008.
The aircraft, which are part of an eight 777-200LR fleet, are configured with 238 seats in three cabins: eight first class seats, 35 business class seats and 195 economy class seats. The remaining three aircraft were built in 2009.
