Test flights have commenced with the CFM International Leap-1C powerplant, according to a source familiar with the effort.

The engine is designed for the Chinese-built Comac C919.

CFM declines to comment on the status of the programme.

But a source familiar with the situation says that it expects CFM will formally confirm the initiation of test flights later today.

Leap-1C is one of three similar powerplants being developed by CFM. The company is working on the Leap-1A for the Airbus A320neo and the Leap-1B for the Boeing 737 Max.
