The month of August was yet again another very strong month for commercial aircraft net orders following the record high month of June and the strong month of July. Airliner net orders came in at 401 for August as 411 new orders were offset by 10 cancellations and another five swaps.
In the highlights of the month, Delta Air Lines placed a substantial order of 100 Boeing 737-900ERs while the CIT Group ordered 50 Airbus A320neos. China’s CASGC and ICBC Financial Leasing both ordered A320 aircraft with 46 and 42 respectively. Cebu Pacific Air also ordered 30 A321neos. Monarch Airlines cancelled six Boeing 787s while Bangkok Airways cancelled four Airbus A350s.
Airbus totalled 234 new orders in August while Boeing received 127. In the regional market, Sukhoi and Bombardier received 46 and four orders respectively.
In the narrowbody market, 110 A320s, 100 737s, 85 A320neos, 30 A321neos and five A321s orders were placed. The widebody orders in the month were for 27 Boeing 777s and four A350s.
Overall, the order backlog for airliners ended August at 8,929, up 312 on the previous month.
