Flight International online news 08:30GMT: US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) officials are investigating the landing gear collapse of a Northwest Airlines Boeing 747-200.
The incident happened at Guam international airport on 19 August following a flight from Tokyo Narita.
The investigators are collecting information from US FAA and Northwest representatives on site in Guam as well as the carrier’s pilots union, the Air Line Pilots Association, and its mechanics union, the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA).
The damaged aircraft remains parked at the airport while the cockpit voice recorder has been sent to Washington DC and is currently being inspected by the NTSB.
Guam airport was forced to close its runway and divert aircraft to other airports because of the incident.
According to Avsoft’s ACAS database, the aircraft, registered N627US, is a 747-200B that was built in 1980 and is owned by NWA Aircraft Finance.
