Oneworld alliance partner Qatar Airways is to open services to the Tanzanian island of Zanzibar in the second half of the year.

The airline says it will begin operating the route from Doha, via Kilimanjaro, five times per week.

Qatar Airways will start flying the onward connection from 1 July.

It currently serves Kilimanjaro via its link to Dar es Salaam. But the Kilimanjaro operation will be revised as a non-stop service.

Zanzibar will be the third destination in Tanzania for the Middle Eastern carrier. The airline will use 144-seat Airbus A320s for the route.
