Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways has contracted SR Technics to provide component maintenance for its on-order Boeing 787 fleet.
The agreement has a value of around $150 million and covers equipment repairs, spare-part pool access, logistic services, and engineering support for the twinjets' “core” components, says the Zurich-based MRO specialist.
SR Technics is owned by Abu Dhabi’s investment firm Mubadala. Last year, Etihad acquired SR Technics’ former sister maintenance provider, Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies, to become the carrier’s technical division.
Etihad chief executive James Hogan says the 787 component deal is testimony to the airline’s “growing relationship” with SR Technics.
The carrier has a total of 71 orders for 787-9 and -10, which are scheduled to be delivered between next year and 2023. “The Boeing 787 aircraft forms a highly strategic position at the heart of both Etihad Airways’ and SR Technics’ long-term plans,” says the latter’s chief, Andre Wall.
Aeromexico became SR Technics’ first 787 maintenance customer in 2013, when it signed a component maintenance and leasing deal with the MRO specialist and Mubadala’s aircraft and equipment financing arm Sanad Aero Solutions.
