ST Aerospace will construct a new MRO facility in Guangzhou, which will be operational by end-2016.

The Guangzhou facility is additional to the hangar which the company currently leases from Guangzhou airport, says a company spokesman. The Guangzhou facility will be built on a 147,000 sqm plot of land, which can accommodate up to four hangars.

“We will start with one hangar that can house two widebody and one narrowbody aircraft at a time. And then expand progressively subject to [MRO] capabilities and demand,” she says.

At present, ST Aero’s hangar at Guangzhou can accommodate only one widebody and two narrowbodies.

She says that the new Guangzhou facility will continue along the same lines as that of its Guangzhou airport business, serving Chinese and US carriers operating the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 aircraft.

ST Aero’s Guangzhou facility is the firm’s second airframe venture in China, and the fourth MRO facility in the country after its engine repair shop in Xiamen and maintenance hangars in Shanghai’s Hongqiao and Pudong international airports.
