A United Express Bombardier CRJ700 operated by Mesa Airlines skidded off the runway and onto grass at Buffalo Niagara International airport late on 7 June, United confirms.
The pilot reportedly told passengers that the aircraft had been blown off the runway by a strong gust of wind.
The aircraft "landed safety in Buffalo but extended beyond the runway upon arrival," United tells Flightglobal. "Passengers exited the aircraft and onto buses for transportation into the terminal."
United says no injuries were reported among the 73 people on board.
The CRJ was operating United flight 3796 from Washington Dulles International airport.
The aircraft, registration N514MJ, was built in 2003 and had accumulated 27,805 hours and 19,201 cycles as of the end of 2014, according to Flightglobal's Ascend Fleets database.
