American Airlines parent AMR earned a $44 million profit in January, the company says today.
Of total operating revenues of $2.09 billion, the US mainline carrier contributed $1.59 billion and regional affiliates added $226 million. The cargo unit posted $49 million and "other" revenues totalled $49 million.
Operating profit amounted to $91 million, after subtracting $2 billion in expenses, including $744 million for fuel, $491 million for wages, salaries and benefits and $137 million for maintenance, materials and repairs.
AMR ended January with $607 million in cash, a $127 million improvement from the previous month.
