Cessna has delivered the 10,000th single-engined aircraft from its Independence facility in Kansas.

The 172 Skyhawk was handed over to Lynchburg, Virginia-based flight training provider Liberty University School of Aeronautics late last month, along with two more of the piston singles.

The Independence facility was opened in June 1996, producing only single-engined aircraft. It now houses Citation Mustang and M2 light business jet production, alongside Cessna piston products including the Turbo Skylane JT-A, Stationair and TTx.

Liberty University is the largest faith-based university aviation programme in the USA, covering the military, missionary, commercial and corporate aviation sectors and unmanned air systems. Liberty is also the owner of Lynchburg airport's fixed-base operator, Freedom Aviation.
