A Delta Air Lines MD-80-family aircraft skidded off a runway at LaGuardia in New York while landing on the morning of 5 March, according to media reports and Twitter updates posted by passengers.

Pictures and video from the scene show the aircraft with its nose resting on a what appears to be a snowy embankment, with passengers evacuating through the right side overwing exit.

The aircraft appears to be an MD-88, registration N909DL.

No information was immediately about injuries to passengers or crew, or the aircraft's intended destinations.

Snow was falling throughout the Northeast on 5 March.

Neither Delta Air Lines or the Port Authority of New York of New Jersey immediately responded ot requests for information.
