Qatar Airways has signed its largest-ever order at the Farnborough air show with a deal for up to 108 Boeing 777s, comprising 100 777Xs and eight Freighter variants.
“This is the largest single aircraft order made by Qatar Airways, worth in excess of $40 billion at list prices,” says Qatar Airways chief executive Akbar Al Baker.
The deal includes 50 firm orders for Boeing’s new General Electric GE9X-powered 777-9X, along with 50 purchase rights, as well as four additional 777F orders and four options.
Deliveries of the 777-9X aircraft to Qatar Airways are due to begin in 2020, says Al Baker.
The deal for 50 777-9Xs represents the firming up of a letter of intent that Qatar Airways placed at the Dubai air show last year as part of a launch announcement with Emirates, which ordered 150 777Xs plus 50 options. Qatar has added 50 purchase rights as part of the firming up of its contract.
The order for four additional 777Fs takes its orders for the freighter version to 12 aircraft, of which six have been delivered.
