IAG is enthusiastic about the potential offered by Airbus’s longer-range version of the A321neo in the Aer Lingus fleet.
Chief executive Willie Walsh told investors at a first-half briefing that the aircraft, designated the A321LR, “represents a fantastic opportunity” for the Irish carrier.
He says IAG is “actively considering” the type and that IAG would disclose further details of plans later this year.
Aer Lingus had previously told FlightGlobal that it viewed the A321LR as a candidate to replace Boeing 757-200s operating for the carrier.
Walsh says that Aer Lingus is looking at additional destinations in the USA to expand the airline’s network.
