The Indonesian air force is to receive 24 former US Air National Guard Lockheed Martin F-16 fighters and nine Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI)/Airbus Military C-295 medium transports.
The plans were announced by defence minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro in a story posted by Indonesia's official news agency Antara.
The 24 Block 25 F-16s will be upgraded to the enhanced Block 52 standard, said Yusgiantoro. He added that the deal has been approved by Indonesia's House of Representatives.
A US industry source said the F-16 sale will be conducted under the auspices of the Foreign Military Sales mechanism, and that the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency is preparing the deal's congressional notification.
A deal for nine C-295s is be worth $325 million, said Yusgiantoro. A memorandum of understanding has been signed with PTDI and the transports will join the air force by the first half of 2014.

The order follows Airbus Military's announcement in early October of a teaming agreement with PTDI which would allow its Indonesian partner to market and co-produce the C-295. It identified the type as a potential replacement for the Indonesian air force's Fokker F27 transports.
