JAL net profit down 32% to Y18.3bn in fiscal Q1

Japan Airlines (JAL) Group has posted a net profit of yen (Y) 18.3 billion ($187 million) in the first quarter of FY2013, down almost 32% from the Y26.9 billion figure for the corresponding period last year.

The group's total operating revenue for the three months to 30 June amounted to Y294 billion, up by 2.6% year on year. International passenger revenue rose by 3.1% to Y98.9 billion and domestic passenger revenue went up by 0.5% to Y109 billion.

International and domestic cargo revenue dropped by 1.05% year on year to Y18.9 billion for the fiscal quarter.

JAL's operating expenses increased by 6.5% to Y272 billion while operating profit for the quarter declined by 29.8% year on year to Y22 billion.

For the full year to 31 March 2014, JAL forecasts operating revenue of Y1.27 trillion, operating income of Y140 billion and net income of Y118 billion.
