Indonesia's Lion Air is in the process of setting up a Thai unit, to be called Thai Lion Air.
According to a source at Thailand's Department of Civil Aviation, Lion is in the process of obtaining and re-naming the air operator's certificate formerly used by Skystar Airlines.
Flightglobal Pro was unable to reach Lion for more details, but a Bangkok Post article quoted sources as saying that the new carrier will commence operations with six Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Thai Lion will operate from Bangkok's Don Mueang airport, and serve both domestic and international destinations.
According to Flightglobal's Ascend database, Skystar went out of business in 2009.
