Business aviation services provider Gama Aviation is expanding its portfolio of services at its Glasgow Airport base in a bid to boost business aviation traffic and enhance its air ambulance provision at the Scottish hub.
New offerings will be implemented next year and will include the construction of a dedicated Gama Aviation hangar and executive aircraft handling terminal. Gama will also enhance its aircraft maintenance capabilities and open an operations centre to support the Scottish air ambulance service. The Farnborough, UK-headquartered company has been providing the service since 1993. The fleet includes two Beechcraft King Air 200Cs based at Aberdeen and Glasgow airports, and a couple of Eurocopter EC135T2s based at Glasgow and Inverness.
Gama Aviation general manager Tom Wells says: "The opening of the Gama Glasgow hangar, offices, maintenance facility and executive terminal further underlines our long term commitment to Scotland and investing in the world class infrastructure needed in order to offer our full range of aviation services, at the highest level to our global client base."
Gama's 1,600m² (17,200ft²) hangar will house not only the dedicated Scottish Air Ambulance King Air, but will also provide hangarage for up to Bombardier Challenger size aircraft, both from within Gama's own fleet and third party aircraft," says Gama. When complete the hangar development will also provide a full base and line maintenance hangar facility, complementing Gama's engineering facilities in the London area.
The development of a Gama Aviation Executive Terminal, will afford operators a new transit/tech stop between North America and the Middle East in particular. For example, the Glasgow Gama Aviation Executive Terminal will link Gama's Teterboro, New Jersey, fixed-base operation with its new facility in Sharjah, UAE. "Glasgow was chosen as the latest Gama FBO as is the optimum stopover point on the 'Great Circle' route, being located virtually midway between the USA and the UAE," says the company.
