Vietnamese low-cost carrier VietJet Air has taken delivery of its first Airbus A321 aircraft, which the airframer says also happens to be its 9000th delivery.

The carrier has six additional A321s on order, says Airbus.

Flightglobal’s Ascend Fleets database shows VietJet with 21 A320s in service, with firm orders for 59 more. The firm orders comprise 10 baseline A320s and 42 re-engined A320neos.

The delivery took place at Airbus's Hamburg completions facility, prior to the aircraft's ferry flight to Ho Chi Minh City.

The carrier has said it will use its A321s on popular, high density routes, namely Vietnam’s key trunk route, Ho Chi Minh City-Hanoi.

Airbus says that the delivery of its 9000th aircraft comes less than two years since the delivery of its 8000th aircraft in August 2013.
