Rolls-Royce has named Ian Davis as its new chairman, to succeed Simon Robertson from the first week of May 2013.

Davis is the former chairman of management consultancy firm McKinsey & Company and also holds positions on the boards of petroleum giant BP as well as pharmaceutical and consumer firm Johnson & Johnson.

He will take over as chairman as the manufacturer focuses its attention on Trent XWB engine development, ahead of first flight of the Airbus A350.

Davis is the brother of Crispin Davis, the former head of publisher Reed Elsevier whose business entities include Flightglobal.
