Singapore Airlines passenger traffic up 6.1% in December

Singapore Airlines' passenger traffic as measured in RPKs grew by 6.1% in December 2012, compared with the same month in 2011.

The carrier's passenger capacity as measured in ASKs rose by 2.8% and its passenger load factor rose by 2.6 percentage points to 82%.

The number of passengers carried by the airline increased by 6% to 1.63 million, says the Star Alliance carrier.

SIA adds that its passenger load factors for the month improved across all route regions on the back of growth in leisure passenger traffic.

Passenger traffic of SIA's subsidiary, SilkAir, increased by 11%, while its capacity rose by 20% and passenger numbers grew by 5.5% to 308,000. The carrier's passenger load factor fell by 6 percentage points to 77.1%.

SIA Cargo's overall traffic, as measured in freight tonne kilometres, decreased by 8%, and its capacity declined by 9%. Its cargo load factor grew by 0.8 percentage points to 64%.

The overall passenger and cargo load factor for the SIA Group increased by 2.8 percentage points to 71%.
