Oman will conduct a major overhaul of three Lockheed Martin C-130H tactical transport aircraft.
The plan was disclosed in a statement by Singapore maintenance repair and overhaul firm ST Aerospace, which will undertake the work. Under the deal, the company will overhaul a range of systems, including the aircraft's Rolls-Royce T56 engines. The transports will also receive new glass cockpits, with an avionics suite that is compliant with global air traffic management systems, enabling them to operate in civilian airspace.
The overhaul work will be undertaken in Singapore. Work will commence on the first aircraft in the third quarter of 2013, and is due to be completed in the first quarter of 2014.
ST Aerospace has been involved with Oman's C-130 fleet since 1988, when it was contracted to do component repair work.
Flightglobal's MiliCAS database lists the Royal Air Force of Oman as operating three H-model Hercules, which it says were delivered between 1981 and 1983. The service last year took delivery of its first of three new-generation C-130Js from Lockheed.
