Cargo doors on Embraer's E-Jets must be visually inspected before each flight under a new US Federal Aviation Administration emergency airworthiness directive issued after a JetBlue Airways E-190's rear cargo door opened just after take-off.
The AD, which the FAA says is an interim measure as Embraer is developing a modification, requires every operator within 24h to remove the roller fitting cover plate on the front and rear doors and visually inspect for signs of interference between the lock handle and aft edge liner assembly. This must be repeated before each flight.
A detailed inspection is also required within 10 days and even if no sign of interference is found every aft edge liner assembly must be replaced within 150 flight cycles.
