United-Continental is in compensation talks with Boeing over delivery delays for its 787 widebodies, according to its annual report filed with US regulators.
"The company is currently in discussions with Boeing over potential compensation related to delays in the 787 aircraft deliveries. The company is not able to estimate the ultimate success, amount of, nature or timing of any potential recoveries from Boeing over such delays," said the filing.
Boeing declined to comment, citing company policy not to discuss contractual negotiations.
United Airlines, through its merger with Continental Airlines in 2010, inherited Continental's order for 11 787-8s and 14 787-9s, the first of which is expected to be delivered in the second half of 2012. United placed an order for 25 787-8s in December 2009.
Previously United-Continental was due to take delivery of six 787s this year, but the delivery schedule was subsequently revised to five aircraft deliveries.
