The US State Department has approved a $420 million support package for Kuwait’s fleet of Boeing F/A-18C/D Hornet fighter aircraft.
The package comprises a range of service including engineering, maintenance, and other support, says the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) in a statement.
It specifies areas such as software upgrades, improvements for the fleet's General Electric F404 engines, spare parts, and documentation.
“This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of a friendly country that has been, and continues to be, an important force for political stability and economic progress in the Middle East,” says the DSCA.
“Kuwait plays a large role in US efforts to advance stability in the Middle East, providing basing, access, and transit for US forces in the region.”
Flightglobal’s Fleets Analyzer shows that Kuwait operates 27 single-seat F/A-18C fighters.
In April, Kuwait placed an order for 28 Tranche 3 Eurofighter Typhoons.
