Airbus has carried out preliminary low-speed take-off tests with the A380 development aircraft at Istres in southern France. To undertake the VMU minimum unstick speed tests, the A380 has been equipped with a special tail bumper to enable it to drag its rear fuselage along the runway. The tests will help to determine optimum slat and flap settings.
