FLIGHTSAFETY International (FSI) has won a five-year, $65 million contract to operate the US Air Force's Lockheed C-141 transport aircrew-training system. C-141 simulators are now operated by Hughes Training. FSI will take over by 1 October.

FSI operates the USAF's Boeing KC-135 tanker and Lockheed C-5 transport aircrew-training systems. The C-141 system includes seven weapon-system trainers, five cockpit-procedures trainers, other training devices and computer-based training workstations, at five bases in the USA.

The contract includes system upgrades, including adding an all-weather flight-control system and new auto-pilot to the C-141 simulators, and expansion of the system with the establishment of learning centres at six other bases to support training of C-141 Air Reserve Component aircrews.
