Daniel Calleja, director of the European Commission’s air transport directorate, says that he is “cautiously optimistic about the prospects for success” in the EU-US open skies talks and believes the UK is prepared to open up London Heathrow. However, US State Department aviation negotiator John Byerly says he would prefer the term “hopeful”. Delta Air Lines managing director Atlantic region, Loren Neuenschwander, says that Delta is happy to see ownership restrictions lifted and believes the carrier will be able to get the slots it wants at Heathrow through alliance partners.
