Roll-Royce Aero Engine Services has won a £70 million contract from the UK Ministry of Defence for the support of RB211-524B4 engines for the Royal Air Force fleet of Lockheed L1011 TriStars, it was announced at the Show yesterday.

The overhaul and repair arm of Rolls-Royce Aerospace Group, RRAESL will supply a comprehensive support package for the RAF's three-engined TriStars for six years, with an option on a further four years.

"The order, won after a hard-fought competition, reflects the desire for the stability and greater visibility of future operating costs offered by such longer-term deals," says Ian Lloyd, managing director of RRAESL.

"The trend towards longer-term contracts is evident in both military and commercial engine support business."

RRAESL was formed in 1993 as a separate business of the Aerospace Group. It has an annual turnover of £200 million.
