Aviation services provider Jeppesen is harnessing the world's hottest IT product, the Apple iPad, to provide charts and flight planning information for pilots.

Speaking at Jeppesen's stand at the Business Aviation Centre, Jeppesen executives Philip Gordon and Stephen Card flick through pages of aviation charts on the company's iPad application. Key charts include IFR arrival and departure procedures, airport diagrams, and vector based charts - essentially the same materials available through the company's JeppView product.

Gordon is in charge of the private client sales for Jeppesen in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, while Card is the company's director of client management for business and general aviation clients.

"Through the iPad, you are just one or two easy clicks from what you need," says Gordon. "Pilots can use it for charts and pre-flight checking."

He adds that digitisation means that Jeppesen, a major player in providing aviation charts among other services, today prints half has many charts as previously.

More broadly, Jeppesen foresees larger opportunities in China's business aviation market. Globally, Jeppesen provides a range of services for private jet owners.

"China is getting more business aviation friendly," says Gordon. "Training is particularly important in the region, which provides an opportunity for our training content."
