The first AgustaWestland AW139 medium twin-turbine helicopter to be delivered in South Africa appeared at Africa Aerospace and Defence following an eight-day ferry flight from Milan, Italy to Cape Town earlier this month. The VIP-configured AW139, painted in a spectacular customised colour scheme, is owned and operated by a South African businessman. The Finmeccanica-owned manufacturer also last week announced an order from the Nigerian government for four AW139s, which are to be configured for corporate transport and search-and-rescue missions. AgustaWestland has meanwhile delivered a Grand helicopter to South African entrepreneur David Mostert, and has also won an order from the South African National Port Authority for an A109 Power for its Harbour Pilot Shuttle service.
