Rick Adam, founder and chief executive of Adam Aircraft Industries (AAI), has been selected as a finalist in the 2003 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award programme for the 14-state Rocky Mountain Region.

Winners will be announced on 18 June in Denver, Colorado.

Adam Aircraft is developing the A500 all-composite centreline-thrust piston twin aircraft for which it expects US certification and first deliveries next month.

Deliver

It then plans to deliver three aircraft a month by year end and five a month by the end of 2004. It projects sales of 125 aircraft over the next three years.

The Englewood, Colorado-based company is described as an innovator in its approach to bringing a new aircraft to the marketplace.

The company prides itself on employing forward-thinking individuals, implementing innovative management techniques and advanced manufacturing processes using composite materials.

It claims that by shortening the time taken to develop and certify new aircraft, it is minimising costs and preparing to deliver what general aviation "has been waiting decades for - a new, high-performance, attractively priced aircraft for flying enthusiasts and business people worldwide".
