South Africa has chosen the more powerful 6,500lb (29kN) thrust Adour 951, over the standard Mk871 engine, for its fleet of 24 BAE Systems Hawk 100 lead-in fighter trainers. The engine is controlled by a Hamilton Sundstrand FADEC and features other enhancements. The first Adour 951 is due to run by early next year, with the first flight due in 2002.
