Adria Airways is planning to start construction of a third maintenance hangar this autumn to cater for rapid growth in its maintenance business.

Over the first six months of 2006 Adria’s maintenance centre posted 64% profit growth. The airline expects to exceed its forecasted 12% maintenance revenue growth.

Adria Airways president and CEO Tadej Tufek says: “Preparations for construction of the third hangar are in the final stage. We anticipate starting construction in the autumn. In the last few years the volume of business in the aircraft maintenance sector has dramatically increased, so expansion is essential.

“The new hangar will also additionally increase available capacity for aircraft maintenance and thereby raise our competitiveness in the market. Recently we even started getting new business from outside Europe, which significantly enlarges our commercial opportunities.”

During the year Adria has signed contracts with Air Berlin, Austrian, Eurowings, Lufthansa CityLine, Malev and Wizzair, among others.

Adria has introduced Bombardier CRJ900s to its fleet, which has been mirrored by the addition of the type to its maintenance portfolio. Adria’s CRJ900 customers include Italian carriers My Air and Air One.
