French engine and systems manufacturer Snecma has signed a partnership agreement with national research agency Onera, under which the two state-owned entities will develop advanced propulsion technologies.

The deal, which aims to formalise the long-term, relationship between the two, will lead to more specific ties on advanced metallic materials and aerothermic research for high temperature applications.

It is expected to increase dramatically the amount of work Onera carries out for Snecma as well as to provide for the integration of their respective research facilities. Furthermore, the two say that once they have integrated their activities they will be "open to outside co-operation".

The two will also work on specific programmes such as the Snecma/Rolls-Royce advanced military engine technology effort, and on the civil engine element of the Brite Euram research programme, co-ordinated by the European Commission.
