Colombian investigators are looking into a landing accident which badly damaged a Boeing 737-400 freighter of Bogota-based cargo airline AerCaribe.
The aircraft (HK-5197) came off the runway after arriving at Leticia – in the far south of Colombia – on 28 January, air transport regulator Aerocivil states.
None of the four crew members was injured.
Images of the aircraft released by the regulator indicate the 737 came to rest off the paved surface, apparently on its fuselage underside, with the undercarriage collapsed.
Aerocivil says Leticia’s runway 03/21 – around 2,000m in length – was initially closed, but the airport management opted to re-open it with runway 03 allocated only for take-off and runway 21 for landing.
Meteorological data indicates that Leticia had been experiencing rain and periods of low visibility during the day.
Flight Fleets Analyzer lists the aircraft as a 27-year old airframe originally delivered to Australian Airlines and eventually converted to a freighter last year.
