Handheld microwave radio receivers for remote aerial and ground surveillance are introduced to the Asian market for the first time at Asian Aerospace 2006.
David Ayotte Microwave Radio Comm W250Microwave Radio Communications (MRC) from Boston produces QuikVue, the first handheld surveillance monitor to receive real-time video and night-vision images from portable microwave transmitters.
The smallest handheld COFDM/MPEG decoder in the industry weighs in at a mere 3.08kg (6.78lb), and features a high-resolution 160mm (6.4in) LCD colour video screen.
At stand D404 you can see a demonstration of the QuikVue unit receiving images from a helmet-fixed mobile camera, but specialised microwave transmitters also have airborne, mobile and satellite applications.
The body-worn transmit system, WAVcell, is a multi point-to-point video system that employs a multiple antennae application for diverse reception from up to four transmitters.
MCR’s David Ayotte says: “The Asian markets’ security concerns are as strong as any part of the world right now whether it’s piracy in the Melaccan Straits, border controls or terrorism. We allow people in command centres to see what is happening on the ground in real time.”
