Embraer and Dassault Aviation are to bid for an expected Indian Air Force (IAF) requirement for up to six business jets to replace four Boeing 737-200s used for government and VIP transport.

The Brazilian company says it will offer the Legacy - an ERJ-135 regional jet variant - while France's Dassault plans to offer the Falcon 900 three-engined long-range business jet. Embraer defence market strategy manager Nilton Goncalves says an IAF team is to carry out ERJ-135 evaluations later this year.

The Gulfstream GIV-SP is also on the shortlist though US sanctions against India may stop the Savannah, Georgia-based company taking part in the contest.
