AeroMobile is working to sign Emirates as the launch customer for its in-flight mobile telephone service. The airline could announce a deal at Dubai.

The service will allow passengers to make in-flight calls and send text messages from their own cellphones, with calls billed through their own network providers.

Emirates already offers seatback satellite phones, email and SMS messaging, and a wi-fi email laptop service on its Airbus A340-500s.

If a deal is reached, the service is expected to be launched next year. Telenor/Arinc joint venture AeroMobile declines to comment on its discussions with Emirates.
