Airbus’s UK division is to furlough some 3,200 personnel at its wing-production plant in Broughton as part of measures to cope with the coronavirus crisis.
The staggered furloughs – which will start over the next three weeks, and last for three weeks – affect the majority of production and production support at the facility.
Airbus says it has “agreed with its social partners” to apply the UK government’s job-retention scheme, introduced in response to the coronavirus outbreak.
The scheme is designed to keep employees on company payrolls during periods of work suspension by contributing a proportion of salaries.
FlightGlobal understands that the agreement reached with Airbus personnel representatives will involve a tiered salary top-up structure. The UK facility at Filton is not affected.
