AEROSPATIALE HAS been selected by Egypt to undertake a $200 million deal to build the national Nilesat communications-satellite system. An announcement is expected at the Paris air show.

Aerospatiale leads a consortium of Alenia, Alcatel, Daimler-Benz Aerospace and Space Systems/ Loral, which has been competing with Matra Marconi Space, Lockheed Martin and Hughes.

The company, which reportedly placed the lowest bid, is expected to build one satellite, a ground spare and two ground stations for the Nilesat contract. The contract will include provision for an Ariane launch in 1997. The Egyptian Government will take a 51% stake in the project.
