Taiwan’s Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC) is trying to offload some of its workshare in the Bombardier Challenger 300.

AIDC says it is considering handing production of the Challenger 300 horizontal stabiliser to another supplier. AIDC now manufactures the empennage, including the horizontal and vertical tail, but says part of this package may be shifted to another Taiwanese company or back to Bombardier.

AIDC last year tried to get out of the Challenger contract, saying it was unprofitable and it could not meet an expected increase in production (Flight International, 05-11 October 2004), but industry sources say AIDC continued because the contract has a no-termination clause and it could not afford a legal challenge. AIDC says it has the capacity to continue empennage production if necessary.
