EgyptAir budget unit Air Cairo is to begin flights linking the Red Sea resort of Hurghada with the German cities of Dusseldorf, Hannover and Stuttgart next month.
The Airbus A320 operator will from 3 May operate thrice-weekly flights to Dusseldorf and two weekly services each to Stuttgart and Hannover. German leisure carrier Condor currently operates on the Hurghada-Dusseldorf route while Air Berlin flies from Hannover to Hurghada.
Air Cairo chairman Yasser El Ramly says: "This scheduled operation is a promising step in tourism promotion methods and avoids the disadvantages of operating charter flights and provides alternatives for tourists and tour operators alike."
It forms part of a concerted effort by Egypt to lift key tourism markets after recent unrest in the region. "We are counting on the operation of these regular flights in boosting the German tourism to Egypt, especially since the German tourism is an important market for Egypt," says Egyptian civil aviation minister Hossam Kamal. "We are working hard with the ministry of tourism in order to create a favorable atmosphere for the return of the flow of tourists to normal traffic in the coming months."
