An Air Canada Airbus A320 has come off the runway after landing at Halifax International airport in Nova Scotia, in an incident which has seen 23 passengers and crew sustain non-life threatening injuries.
The aircraft was operating Air Canda flight 624 from Toronto to Halifax. The incident happened on landing at approximately 00:43 local time this morning. Air Canada says there were 133 passengers and five crew on board.
"All passengers and crew deplaned the aircraft," the Star Alliance carrier says in a statement. "Air Canada can confirm that 23 passengers and crew sustained non-life threatening injuries and have been transported to local hospitals for observation and treatment." Eighteen of the passengers and crew have since been released from hospital.
Images from the scene show the A320 carrying the registration C-FTJP. Flightglobal's Ascend fleets database show this CFM International CFM56-powered aircraft as MSN 233 and is owned by GE Capital.
"Air Canada personnel are currently on site providing assistance to passengers and additional Air Canada teams are on their way," it adds. "No further details are available at this time."
Operations have been closed at Halifax airport following the incident though the airport expects its secondary runway to re-open at around 6:00.
