Air Canada starting in April plans to expand its transborder operation from its Toronto hub to seven new destinations.
On 6 April the carrier plans to debut daily mainline service to Santa Ana airport in Orange County, California using Airbus A319s, followed by the debut of daily A319 flights to San Diego on 17 June. Air Canada's new Embraer E-190 flights to Portland, Oregon also begin on 17 June.
The remaining four markets are designated for operation by Air Canada's regional partners. On 17 May Air Canada Jazz is inaugurating flights with Bombardier CRJ200s to Memphis, Tennessee and Cincinnati, Ohio.
Also on 17 May Air Canada's partner Air Georgian plans to debut flights operated with Raytheon Beechcraft 1900D turboprops to Portland, Maine and Syracuse, New York.
Schedules in the Innovata database show that Air Canada faces competition from American Airlines on flights to Orange County. American offers a single daily, one-stop flight from Toronto using a Boeing 737-800.
Delta Connection carriers Atlantic Southeast Airlines and Comair offer flights with 50-seat Bombardier CRJ200s to Cincinnati, and Pinnacle Airlines offers CRJ200 flights to Portland.
Once the new routes are launched Air Canada and its partners will offer 142 scheduled daily flights to 51 US destinations from its hub in Lester B Pearson International airport.
