Chinese flag carrier Air China is backtracking on a statement made by its chairman earlier this week that it is seeking at least 3 billion yuan ($439 million) in financial aid from the Chinese Government.
Star Alliance member Air China says in a stock exchange filing that it "has not made and will not make any application to the relevant PRC [People's Republic of China] governmental authorities for a capital injection".
It adds: "At present, the operations of the company are normal and there is no other material information which is required to be disclosed pursuant to applicable rules and regulations which has not been disclosed."
Earlier this week Air China chairman Kong Dong told journalists in Beijing that the airline has put in a request for government aid and it is seeking at least 3 billion yuan.
Chinese airlines have been struggling and the Chinese Government has already provided financial aid China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Hainan Airlines and Shanghai Airlines.
