A Peruvian air force Boeing 737-200Adv operating a civil charter flight for Occidental Peruana has crashed while making a bad weather night approach to Andoas, a small town on the Peru/Ecuador border.

There were 79 passengers and eight crew on board the flight on 5 May from Iquitos, and 13 are believed to have survived the impact, which occurred about 5km (3nm) from the airfield, according to loss adjuster Airclaims.

The aircraft was one of two 15 year old ex-Skyline NEPC 737-200s recently acquired by the air force from US leasing company PLM International. It is not unusual for South American states to have a civil air transport wing operated by the military. The Colombian carrier TAME, which suffered a fatal Boeing 727 accident near Bogota, Colombia, on 20 April, is also a military operated civil airline.
