The French and German air forces could be set to break with normal procurement procedures to source trans-national maintenance support services for the Airbus Military A400M. The move comes as Lufthansa Technik and Air France Industries reveal that they are to team up to examine extending their joint A380-oriented Spairliners component and logistics support service to the A400M.

If the scheme goes ahead, both maintenance, repair and overhaul businesses will offer component services to the operators of all 192 aircraft ordered worldwide.

"The [French and German] air forces have started discussions suggesting they may buy national solutions for a support scheme that would be beneficial in terms of economy of scale and savings," said Lufthansa Technik senior vice-president component services Uwe Mukrasch, speaking at MRO Europe in Amsterdam last week.
