Air France-KLM is to approach financiers later this month with a request for proposals as the group seeks financing for its 2016 deliveries.
The RFP is set to include five widebodies, of which three are Boeing 787-9s that will be operated by KLM, sources say.
Two 777-300ERs scheduled for delivery to Air France complete the RFP.
KLM's first 787-9 is set to join the fleet on 25 October, with a second to follow in November. Both are under operating lease agreements with AerCap.
A third leased aircraft is due in February 2016. Flightglobal's Ascend Fleets database shows that AerCap will also place another 787-9 with the Dutch SkyTeam carrier next year.
Banking sources say Amsterdam-based KLM is seeking financing for three new deliveries scheduled next year.
Air France-KLM Group ordered 25 787-9s in 2011 and said at the time that it would lease an 12 additional from AerCap. All of the aircraft will be powered by General Electric GEnx engines.
Last month, KLM converted six 787-9s to the larger -10 model under the Perform 2020 efficiency programme.
Air France is scheduled to take a pair of 777-300ERs next year, sources say.
Ascend Fleets shows that the French carrier has three Airbus A320 deliveries also scheduled in 2016.
