Air France says that up to 5% of its services were expected to be cancelled yesterday following a two-day lightning strike by pilots over a decision by the flag-carrier to pull out of Aeropostale, its joint venture airline with French mail service La Poste.

French financial daily Les Echos says that some pilots have already walked out for two days, forcing cancellation of some 80 operations out of a normal total of 1,350 flights. Air France says no long-haul services will be cancelled.

Aeropostale operates scheduled and charter services for Air France during the day and reverts to its role of mail transporter by night.
